The Lord of the Rings legendarium is to thank for the fantasy genre that we, as consumers, enjoy today. If J. R. R. Tolkien would have never written the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, it is a safe assumption that the fantasy genre as a whole would be significantly less attractive.
